x86 Nested Virtualization - Project Plan

Previously at XenSummit events there have been discussions of the technical detail of x86 Nested Virtualization, and the current status in Xen (see the slides/recordings from George Dunlap’s talks from 2024’s summit for example).

At XenServer, we are aiming to start work on this in 2026, with an eventual goal to get the functionality to a position where it can be security supported, and useful for real world use cases such as Windows VBS functionality.

In this session, we hope to:

• Present and discuss our current high-level project plan
• Identify other community members who are interested in joining this work
• Discuss some ideas around scope prioritization
